Popular Festivals
The popular festivals introduce us to the essential culture of the city. Most of the festivals are religious ones, which have changed into popular pleasure, celebrating historic events and folklore that has its roots in the most profound culture of the Mediterranean.
In winter the festivals of St Anthony and St. Sebastian during the month of January and St. Marcia in February will surprise you.
Easter is marked by the processions on Good Thursday and Good Friday.
Already in summer, on the 29th of June the festival of St. Peter is celebrated, the principal attraction of which is the maritime procession.
In July we celebrate the festival of Mother of God of La Victoria (2nd July) and of St. James (25th July), who is the patron saint of the town, which is a taurine festival, which dates from 1892; and in August on the 24th there is the night of the lanterns.
